How To Kill A Dream
By Amanda Antoinette Rebello
Semblance of space and time is lost least for
Sunbeams that dance over the walls drawing close
Inch by excruciating inch the room shrieks and shrinks
Shutting in on the warmth of a setting sun
A cold unfamiliarity emanates from the room
Months of lonesome languish resurface
Nothing gets closure except the confines
A final meal is doled out and a posse is assembled
The cat that watched with quizzical admiration
Directs a deadly dose of disapproval
A study in death leads to another
As the blood drains and turns a royal blue
Reddened eyes look upon as a calm settles
Transported back to Victorian England
Watching from the bushes as a woman in white
Picks fresh flowers from the garden nursery
Serenity fades into peripheral darkness
Remembering goodbyes were never said
The noose refuses to unravel and tightens in indignation
The body screaming in silent agony as fingers
Act unresponsive as the first ounce of panic creeps in
Steel nerves are enough to loosen the knot
One finger encouraging a breath of life
The noose unravels and the body breaks down
Wailing, screaming bloody gruesome murder
Wind chimes sound all around, a symphony of catastrophe
Deadened stares and creeping tears
A cowardly act, a mangled metastrophe.
