Hopeless Faith

Gentle raindrops burble into drains, soft and pensive,

ploppy, little by little, pattering upon trembling hands.

Loud and clear, cloaked in disquiet, they plead defensive,

seeking refuge from war’s demands in that muddy land.

Bewildered by the tumult that tore them asunder,

their spirits yearn for respite from relentless strife.

Hearts crave the comfort of purity’s sweet solace,

navigating the perilous maze of war’s embrace.

Feignedly, amidst false promises and treacherous blades,

reverberations leave wounds that will not heal.

Yet sounding silence, like a veil, sweeps over their care,

leaving scars time cannot condemn or conceal.

They wave at the knots and snarls that bind their souls,

believing that at the end, light will appear.

Their tears, like ink, like birdsong, write a poetry,

washing sorrows away, echoing year after year.
