In the unfolding of the day

As washing flapped cheerily on a merry go round line

And the sun tried to pry open stubborn clouds to look

A woman weaved her way

Through chores and other Important Work

Cross stitched thoughts

Coloured her mind

Her breath threaded through

The fabric of her life

On her belly the marks of two children

In her heart a well of love

Years of worry sat well-worn around her brow

As passing time painted silver in her hair

Those who knew her knew her not

For each and every one could only see

Their own image in her face

Their own stories in her palms.
