Halfway Down
By Samaa Ved Moola
The water calls her,
The night’s silence lingers a little longer,
Her heart aches as her head pounds,
She yearns for the night, perhaps to grow a little stronger,
Her emotions crowded imagining the view from halfway down.
She watches the glisten of the moonlight,
The water sloshes left and right,
Holding her head high,
She takes flight,
Forgotten is the view from halfway down.
Her mind now clam,
Her heart now crowned,
She thought not of what is, only what was,
If she did not speak of the view from halfway down.
Her fists clench,
Her eyes shut,
Her heart now rising up,
Her legs tremble,
Her hands quake,
Her mind harrowed by her mistake.
Her eyes awaken,
Her lips part,
She listens to the screaming wind,
She follows its sound,
Her now fragmented frame of mind,
She calls outs, knowing no bounds,
She is now halfway down.
The fondness of warmth now gone,
The distant feelings disappear,
Her calls now answered,
Her cries now cleared,
Forgotten is the fear of being halfway down.
Her hurried gasps run out,
She took her final breath,
Her mind now passed halfway down;
Embracing the cool received from below,
For she has fallen down.
