Green Elegy

As night fell over the dense forest trees,

Smiling she stood, hiding behind tears that nobody sees,

They bereft her of the roots , one at a time,

When her flowers bloomed, the leaves shining at its prime,

Her land had a greater purpose to serve they said,

A concrete tower where men toiled to earn their daily bread!

Her wings were chopped and life came to a pause,

She bid adieu to earth - but was it indeed for a higher cause?
