Gorgeous But Tough

The crackling sound of the small tufts of snow Awakens you from your sleep as it hits the window, Cold, freezing wind blowing from all possible ways Makes you numb whether nights or days,

You get down from your bed If you are probably not dead, To see the sun ascend Marking the night’s end,

The dancing rays of the ball of fire Streaming in through the mesh of wire, Will bring a smile of relief on your pretty face As you move towards the foggy window and your name is what you trace,

The sky enhancing with a golden hue Somewhere vivid vermilion, somewhere blameless blue, Invites the sun to soar up to a height Where the clouds can play with it and even have a fight,

If you look out of the window while everyone chants You’ll find spruce and pine which look not like trees but like ants, Their homes look pretty too-the big, bare, brown mountains Which support the growth of fir, not grains,

As I come from plains I find it quite weird How people crave for sun, whether the ones with a plait or a beard, The sun, even before it reaches its zenith Makes you feel warm and cozy, with every breath,

You comprehend the worth of the mighty sun Revealing that winters here are graceful but not much fun, Everything is splendor like the alluring snow on a tree Winters are gorgeous but tough on the ‘queenly hills of Mussoorie’ !!!
