Glistening

By Jazlyn Mara

You can run if you feel you have to

but first I’ll tell you you’re beautiful

like glass at sea

buried under sand until

something moves you

sharp around the edges at first

from the one who pushed you to pieces

a little blue,

still learning which ways

the light shines through,

yet wholesome

soft, well-rounded and kind

they’ll find that heart to be

inside

your chest.

a risk at each glistening ridge

that architects your body

a radiant fixer-upper often delicate

and a blessing nonetheless.
