Girl Child

I watched her with a million eye

An innocent beauty left to cry.

Who cast her out with heart so cold?

What tale of sorrow remains untold?

The mother who should hold her near,

Forsook the child she ought to dear.

A heart of stone, devoid of grace,

Left tears upon that tiny face.

Upon a heap of garbage she lay,

Unheard, unattended, cast away.

Her feeble cries pierced through the skies,

Bringing sorrow to my eyes.

She waited there for helping hands,

For love that every child demands;

For milk and warmth, a tender breast,

A safe embrace, a place to rest.

My heart reached out, my hands did too,

To comfort her as mothers do.

Yet all I saw was through a screen-

A distant pain, a haunting scene.

O little girl, so frail, so mild,

Every daughter is Heaven’s child.

May loving arms around you stay,

And guide your precious life each day.
