Ghosts of yesteryear

Each time you crept into my life

Was only to leave again,

Leaving behind a bloodied trail

Of bruised words and calloused hearts.

Memories became scabs;

blindly blanketing the pulse beneath.

The clock ticked the beat of your name,

Awaiting the return of breath

Across annals of emptiness.

Each time you stepped into my life,

Was only to withdraw again,

Leaving behind crippled dreams

Of love and light and liberty.

Memories became scars

Topical tattoos of stolen heartbeats.

Echoing footsteps receded

... receded....receded...receded.

And the silouette of silence became you.
