Frozen shores

Frozen Shores

I walk alone the frozen shores

Neath a sky of shadows old

A creeping cold held the land

Forgotten roads near at hand.

A silence holds the world above

A stillness seems to know no bound

The ground vanishes in falling snow

Singing beneath my lonely footfall.

Dark trees loom from the ground

Bare and dry and black as hounds

They steal into my thoughts bare boughs

Once they bore flowers abound.

Littered along the roads I see

Where I had crossed the yellow seas

The footsteps now etched in the past

Only for me the stolen lasts.

Icy winds pierce my heart

As I yearn for warmth near a hearth

Even tears do not fall on the snow

So lifeless it mourns without a soul.

Spring had gone and summer blooms too

Autumn come and leaves lost too

Those who danced amongst the dunes

Moved on the wind to greener pews.

The sky watches the cold hard ground

Choked by day I cannot make a sound

Only I roam neath the frozen stars

Blood stains the snow of haunted pasts.
