From The Thousand Doors I've Walked Through
By Mumtaz Khorakiwala (aka Batool Idrish Siamwala)
From the thousand doors that I've walked through
All my life I've spent striving to know you, Love,
To feel your warmth, to see that glow kindle
eyes
But my eyes move towards that nonpareil glimmer
When the aurora lights sizzle soulful winter skies.
*****
From the thousand doors that I've walked through
All my life I've spent striving to fathom you, Love.
My body has shed many seasons
To get a glimpse of you: yet, your sublimity puzzles me
Love, you appear in many forms
Some comprehensible, others ignoble!
******
From the thousand doors that I've walked through
All my life I've spent striving to drink from your font
In a world of polarities, I'm lost
Rendered is the canvas in shades extreme
Of monochromatic tints: Black and white!
And yet, Love, you paradoxically leave your signature hues,
That captivate my gaze whilst my aching heart helplessly beats.
*****
From the thousand doors that I've walked through
All my life I've spent striving to quench this thirst.
Love, your myriad nuances alarm me
Each my mind weighs through a lifetime, until the autumnal knell rings
Calling me to shed a life,
Then my carcass is embraced by the earth,
Which in its diurnal rhythm whispers:
Oh, dear, piercing thorns with roses appear.
