Four And Twenty
By Kavya Venkateshwaran
Bereaved, belittled, unappreciated,
Mild self-esteem, ill-fated,
She walks to the interview with uncertainty,
“Where will life lead?” this woman of Four and Twenty.
She yearns for a stop, a destination, a purpose,
Experienced in little, but a reassured surface,
Her losses far outweighing her gains,
The first decade of adulthood, spent so far in pain.
To add to her woes is a recessionary industry,
An aftermath of a tough quarantine,
Helpless, hopeless, jobless, and more,
Her indoor degrees, no better than stone.
Her peers, swimming in success – a – plenty,
Some Privileged with luck, others – Privileged Gentry,
Scared, alone and flushed with mediocrity,
The young adult lady of Four and Twenty.
Now she must face a wild situation,
Do or die, no room for hesitation,
She looks at the room, the interviewee's seat is empty,
Taking the plunge, goes the women of Four and Twenty.
