Forgiving
By Anindita Das
A word so strong…so rarely used
Such strenuous effort needed to utter
Forgiving someone and forgetting
Is the best way for the mind to declutter
The weight that we carry within
By keeping past events in mind
The burden that is buried…deep rooted
Has often barred us to unbind
Unbind from the shackles of angst,
The pain... the scar that we carry
The mind is in captive; is always confined
Consequences of which we are wary
The sense of discomfort that we go through
As those situations are recalled
The wound feels fresh; scratched again
Like the mind has again been mauled
Picking up the courage to let go,
To forget and forgive the cause
To weigh down the load off your chest
Deserves a worthy applause
Applause I say, as it is easier said than done
To let the past experiences go
Walking ahead with the head held high
Moving out of this dark shadow
Shadow of the past…. the load we bore
The pain we let our mind to suffer
Leaving that behind; breathing a wisp of fresh air
Accepting that we indeed are tougher
