I know how to hide behind a million reasons why

But for you, I give myself away much more than I ever realise

For you, I pick at my food while the thought of you eats at me

For you, my red rimmed eyes can't bear the light of day

For you, flames burn from scraps of love letters

I am ash and smoke when I finally have nothing new to say

I choose my vices, I could breathe in the fumes but

For you, I hold my breath so you’ll remind me to breathe

I cough and cough til my heart is on a plate

It is body and blood and the way you say my name

For you, I’m better bruised and wanting anyway

For you, I take the gift of blame

So for now, I will write for you

And you for(get) me

And all you wish you never gave
