Fly, Icarus. Fall, Icarus

I would stare at you until the ocean had dried and the moon rose,

Close your eyes, Icarus.

Your blinding beauty and divine grace,

It is not for you, Icarus.

How I long to be yours,

I beg you, stay tethered to the ground, Icarus.

My sun, how I worship you,

Stay on your knees if it meant you would stay.

I wish to the moon for wings to lead me to you,

Are you not afraid, Icarus?

Fly, I will. What is mortality if not to risk death?

You told me you were afraid to die, Icarus.

Built stairways to climb up to the sky,

Your stairs will crumble, Icarus.

Built wings of wax to fly to you, my sun,

Your wings will melt, Icarus.

The ocean’s winds will carry me,

You will never reach me, Icarus.

My wings have failed me, Apollo,

I have warned you, Icarus.

I beg you, save me, Apollo!

You have flown too close, Icarus.

I have fallen into the ocean, Apollo,

I mourn you, my Icarus.

My last breath is of my devotion, my sun,

I heard your plea, Icarus.

Why did you not catch me, Apollo?

You have flown too close, Icarus.

To the sun? I could not reach you!

To death, my Icarus.

You could never have reached me.

I mourn you, my Icarus.
