Flowers for your grave

She walked along the dirt road

Plucking flowers in the early morn

And to the market, she would bring

The choicest blooms of the spring.

For the children she made blooming crowns

For maidens wreaths to match their gowns

Flowers to adorn tables of family

With faces shinning all around it,

Flowers to brighten countertops

And to creep a blush to the eyes that stop.

All day her sweet face

Brought flowers and smiles in the market place.

But always in her pocket case

A small bunch not given away.

When the evening sun ended the day

When silence fell on the dirty way

She walked slowly, her eyes cast down

To lay the flowers, on your grave.
