FIRST LOVE

by Jessica Field

What was once the innocence of a first love

Is now an unhealing wound from betrayal.

What was once a promise, promised not to be broken

Is now a broken promise

What was once being deep in love

Is now left broken

Left with broken pieces and betrayal

Betrayal from being told

Being told she’s just a friend

Being told not to worry,

Being told you’re my forever,

Being told you’re my dream girl,

Being told I will never hurt you.

Only to coldly leave with no regard

No regard of the promises you made

The promises you didn’t mean

Now there you are with a new love

Who looks nothing like me.

Whilst im left with unwavering love,

I can’t seem to let go of.

Whilst I sit in pain,

Sleepless nights,

No food to stomach,

No love to rebound like you.

I know the love I felt was real,

Because even after all of this,

You’re still held captive within the innocent

depths of my heart.

How do I release it?

How do I let go?

Only time will tell but for now

I guess we’ll never know.
