fierce stillness

we are not

made of glass

just because we bend

does not mean

we break

when the storm

tears the roof

from our chests

we do not wait

for someone to rebuild it

we take the fallen timber

and the heavy stones

and we build a cathedral

out of our own ribcages

let them call us soft

we carry oceans

in the palms of our hands

and still

we manage to bloom

through the concrete
