Fever Dream

This is a counterintuitive poem

written crystal clear

clearly as if a crystal ball

seen through a haze of prescription pills

painting a clear picture of her

but I do not mind

the pounding behind my eyes

makes for a better soundtrack this time

and my dry throat is numb with bitterness

for it to feel any more grime

blame the medication, right?

clouds seeping out through my tear ducts

soft like sea foam

a hotheaded illness draining away

like cough, can't be hidden or shown

i don't want it to go

but it can't stay anymore

so here's a toast to the counterintuitive

fever dream we call love.
