About the Work
Priyamvada Singh's "FATE OF THE METEOR" is a poignant exploration of love's transformative and sometimes painful journey. The poem's rich imagery and contemplative tone draw the reader into a world where celestial bodies mirror human emotions. The use of metaphors like a meteor's fate and the rings of Uranus beautifully illustrate the struggle between love's brilliance and its hidden sorrows.
FATE OF THE METEOR
Original Submission by Priyamvada Singh
Left my heart to break on the touch of your hands,
For the touch of love might just make it sacred,
Look of pain in the eyes I never wanted,
However, fate is what one never wants but gets.
I had never believed in fate, since I worked for our destiny,
The sky turned dark, like our love turned beige,
The nights of love turned to sitting with coroners,
Trying to find the reason for death, only for it to be blamed by one another of murder.
The thorn hurted but on the outside, so pretty,
Blood so red, hurt, prideful, but love does that to me,
How shall I go? How should I leave my love?
Stars are blinded in the daylight, but they do glow in the dark.
That’s what I told my planets, “Stay in the dark, you’ll see the truth”,
I studied the stars, hoping a constellation would’ve spelled your name,
Only to snap out of my dreaming, the late nights are starless,
I could’ve been on any planet, your weight on me would forever be the same.
I wander through my nights, in my cloak, trying to get rid of your scent,
Looking around, feeling descended into astray,
Your love was like the rings of Uranus, there but almost never seen,
But my love still shone for you, like the brightest star in the galaxy.
So tangled we were in our own miseries,
Forgot that love’s all about it,
Yet silence remained on our lips,
Lisping out the words of happiness, knowing it can’t really be said in reality.
But I don’t blame you, I know you loved me,
I felt it, I had it, but it was my fault to not hold it,
For it was the very thorn I was so afraid to grab,
The meteor’s fate is forever to crash.
