Fair in the Unfair

We complain.

We grieve.

We build entire arguments

around how unfair the world feels.

Too loud.

Too cold.

Too unequal.

Too difficult.

And sometimes,

we are right.

We look around and measure our losses

against someone else’s polished life,

their effortless smiles,

their carefully displayed success.

The grass always appears greener

from where we are standing.

But perspective is a strange thing.

Shift it slightly,

and the edges begin to blur.

Because behind every “perfect” life

exists something hidden from view

another pressure,

another grief,

another loneliness people rarely speak about aloud.

The chaos we believe belongs only to us

often exists quietly

behind every closed door.

Even the people we envy

carry burdens we cannot see.

That does not erase unfairness.

It does not magically balance suffering.

But it reminds us

that comparison is deeply incomplete.

Because comparison only zooms in

on what shines.

It crops out the fear,

the exhaustion,

the uncertainty behind it all.

And maybe fairness was never something

neatly divided between people.

Maybe life is simply uneven

in different directions.

Some people receive opportunity

but lose peace.

Some receive love

but struggle with identity.

Some achieve success

while quietly falling apart.

And some carry invisible battles

while appearing perfectly fine.

So perhaps the truth is not

that life is fair.

It is that unfairness exists everywhere,

just in forms we are not always close enough to notice.

And what we call “the better side”

is often just another life

we have idealized from a distance.
