Fading Times

The old streetlamps that warmed

the streets with beams of gold,

has faded into memory.

Now a sterile white light

takes possession of the dark,

blinding the passing eyes.

I see the ink on pages fade away

As modern keys replace the running hands

The stories told at closing of the day

Begin to vanish from the changing land.

The quiet night of old are pushed away

As glowing digital screens come walking in.

The ancient paths where generations toiled

Are paved to let a newer world begin.

We cannot stop the ticking of the clock,

Nor change the course shifting winds will blow.

But standing high upon a steady rock

We watch the dawn of altered eras grow.
