Every Woman's Story

By Esha Jaiswal

I’ve no one to talk to, no one to share with, the goings-on of the day, the thoughts in my mind. Did I ever have anyone before this though? Maybe yes, long distance that was – a dedicated hour or maybe two. Now, it is this family matter or that. This person or that. Or, just the blaring TV set. Also, I’m starting to lose track. This is becoming me. The reality – I am a wife of a husband

in a country where women are lost. Where in some sort of degree they are told what they can be or do. There are great expectations and a lot of adjustment. Everything is new. Everything familiar gets thrown. It’s not for the weak hearted. It’s not for the wild ones. For, you, are to be tamed by the old and the frail and by tooth and nail by legends made up and by societal ires – an invisible cage.

I’ve no one to talk to.

For, it is frowned upon.

It is every woman’s story

In one or the other form.
