Elevated
By Barsha Priyadarshini
A fall from a cliff
Dragged the sleep away from me.
It was past midnight,
It was a dream,
But the fear was real.
Certain genes of mine are acrophobic.
They panic of elevations.
My cat could climb and jump, between the closets
But I couldn't.
I even hated to step on a ladder.
A thrill on the roller coaster was
Equivalent to a ride of nausea for me.
I panic of elevations
A walk on a tightrope was my biggest nightmare.
I believed,
The acrobats had special shoes
Made by mystic elves that betrayed gravity.
The panic even resides in me when
My expectations are elevated.
My heart fears to fall,
From heights or in love.
My feet loves to walk on parallels,
Cursing the vertex.
My eyes still longs for an aerial panorama,
Straight from the rooftop.
Such panic of all kinds
stays with us everyday
It never leaves,
It is only forgotten sometimes,
When our feet is never let to walk alone.
