Eclipse of the Heart

We stood by your bedside,

Watching your life fade away

Into the sunset,

Like dewdrops vanishing from a petal.

How fragile that heartbeat,

Echoing into eternal peace,

While we stood selfishly

Begging you to stay

Just a moment longer ...

So we could savour your warmth

For just another moment.

But like the ebbing tide,

You took with you

The sands of life that glistened most:

Your radiant smile,

Your gentle spirit,

Your melodious laughter,

The warmth of your hugs.

The clouds will clear, Mummy,

And your guiding light will

drizzle upon us

Across the distance of separation.

Yet the eclipse of the heart

will remain

Till our journey to you is through.
