Dusty Spoon

While across the streets

I find myself gaping -

gaping at the sight of what

raw work looked like,

for no axe or hammer or

spittoon would lie about

the efforts it greets.

souls, for once I find them

shivering to the lord,

poor and dusty and hungry

i see them gauge the sight

of blessings with nothing

but hope, for they have lived

a life behind the screen, building

institutions to roads to everything.

For they are ones who have

lost nights of peace and grains of

rice, for they are the ones lord pays

pays with nothing but naive innocence

and maybe a place in heaven for

all the deeds that have repelled disasters
