DRINKING ALONE BY MOONLIGHT

The moth hovers close

To the reflection of the moon

on the glass of my wine.

Mistaking it, the fool, for food or company,

Or whatever it is moths search for in lighter things.

But I know there is no food

In the reflection of the moon.

Instead I, the fool, search for company or conversation,

Or whatever in the reflection of my face in the liquid of the wine;

Greet the stranger

Who warbles in the pale gold,

Whose eyes skip across the ripples.

And so together, we fools, keep searching in the reflection of cold things.
