Dreams:

“Don’t you have dreams man?”

“I did, but I’ve matured now. We’ve both grown. We’re not kids playing at recess or flipping bottles during lunch. We’re high schoolers now, almost going off to college.”

“So you just gave up on dreaming?”

“Well, not entirely.”

“What do you mean?”

“Well, I just have more realistic dreams?”

“Come on, a dream can’t be realistic, that’s the whole point.”

“Well, what about getting a job, making some money and starting a family? I can’t dream and do all that. It’s just... life I guess.”

“But does it have to be? We’re human, we were made to be wild, to have ambition!”

“I don’t know man, life’s serious now and there’s no room for anything new.”

“No space? So life’s really just a giant prison for people like you, huh?”

“What do you mean people like me?"

“The guys who don’t take risks. The people so focused on the day to day that they forget about the years, so focused on their tasks that they let time slip right through their fingers. I just want to reach out and take a grip of my life. I want to make a mark, after all, we don’t get a second chance.”

“You’re a dreamer, you always were. But even you’ll mature one day and then you’ll understand it. It’s not a perfect world, everyone has dreams but it’s just that... the pressure keeps pushing, and you just can’t. You’ll see one day.”

[Long silence]

“Well, if growing up and maturing means I have to give up my ambition, then I really just want to die young.”

“You don’t understand what you just said, do you?”

“Maybe I do, maybe I don’t, but I’m willing to bet it all on a flash of glory. I don’t care about the years I live--”

“What do you care about then?”

“The life in those years. That’s all that matters.”
