Dreams

As my head hit the pillow late last night

I struggled to fall asleep until the wee hours of the night

But once I did, I dreamt of you

And maybe shed a tear or two

When I woke up I was met with dampness

In the area where my cheeks and the pillowcase meet

Because somehow even in my sleep

Anxiety, love and loss hovered over me like a creep

I remembered how it felt like

Having you sleep by my side

How your warmth encased me

Even though I complained you’re too scrawny

And now what’s left is the ghost of you

And the memories etched with a slowly fading hue

But I know for sure, our feelings were true

For both, me and you

Tonight I might fall asleep

Or not sleep at all

And all I wonder is

What was all this for?

Why did the universe do this to me and you?

Am I the only one suffering, or are you, too?
