Doctor...

Being a doctor is the most difficult task,

As there are many questions, that patient's attendant ask,

Some can be answered, while others can't,

As you can't break the bad news in a trance!

People look at you with a sense of gratitude,

But it doesn't take long to change their attitude,

Once you counsel them about poor prognosis,

They shout at you & threaten you about dire consequences!

Being an oncologist is the toughest branch I assume,

Because, mostly patients visit OPD in late stages,

Most of them don't have much time and energy left,

And many of them are not even eligible for curative care!

But on the other side, there are few patients,

Who are in late 80's or 90's, and visit OPD without attendants,

When asked that where are their family members,

They tell me how they have been abandoned, with tears!

It makes my heart cry, and my soul tremble,

And it takes time for me to reassemble,

I feel heavy and burdened in discussing with the patient,

As I know, he/ she will cry after leaving my chamber!

Then there will be nobody to pat on their shoulders,

To make them feel comfortable, and to cheer,

O'God, please help each and every patient out there,

With health, longevity and no despair!
