You’re far, far away,

but I imagine it is you who paints

these sunsets for me,

the skies, brilliant like the glimmer

in your amber eyes.

You’re far, far away,

but I imagine, if I reach out

behind this screen,

I’d feel the warmth of your fur again,

soaked in the winter sun.

You’re far, far away,

but I image if I call your name

I can see your tail quiver

and the press of a wet nose

against my hand.

You’re far, far away,

and your absence weighs

in waves looming overhead

too close,

too close.
