Devotion

By Amreen Fatima

Devotion is an intense emotion. For ages, it has been used to civilize people to make them the way they are now. When a person gets devoted to something or to someone, he or she will do every possible thing to make that something in its best way or to make that person to whom he or she is devoted the happiest person.

Thus, we can divide the Devotion into different categories:

  1. Devotion towards work or any non-living things

A devoted person under his legal limits will always remain self-motivated. For example, if a person is devoted to his work, he/she will ensure that his work gets completed on time and with the best quality. That, in turn, would motivate him to do it on time and put his/her 100 percent effort into it.

He/she will also make sure that nothing comes onto their reputation. So, they will abide by the rules. That is also a positive element making a person a better human and more civilized.

  1. Devotion towards supernatural power or any religion or faith

If a person is devoted to any supernatural power or say to his/her religion. That is the most positive thing happening because, at that time, he/she would automatically become the best version of themselves as no religion in this world preaches terrible habits or lousy etiquette.

  1. Devotion towards another human being or living thing

When a person is devoted to fellowmen or other living things of the world, they will try their best to make that person or living things (animals or plants) happy and healthy and ensure that nothing harms them.

But what if this Devotion crosses limits?

Yes, being devotional is always considered a positive attitude, but it too has its negative attribute. When a person gets too devoted to anything or work, he/she will stop caring about other things, which might make them workaholics or sick or cut them out of their friends' circle or destroy their relationships, and the good thing is that they don't even realize about it.

And if a person is too devoted to his own religion /faith /supernatural power, he/she is likely to become orthodox or less tolerant of others' religion/belief, which in turn seeds communal disturbance and hatred in the long ru

Lastly, when a person gets too devoted to other living being, he /she is likely to become selfish to make that living being happy and will not bother about any other emotion.

Thus, we can conclude that Devotion is an exceptionally positive attitude that helps make any individual self-motivated, caring, punctual, practical, lovable, and self-disciplined but being too Devotional towards anything or anyone might invite a bundle of negative attitudes along like self - centered, possessiveness, orthodoxy and intolerance.
