DEMONCRAZY-DEMOCRACY
In the land that sold us freedom’s name,
the ballot runs where truth is framed;
votes are counted while deciders sleep,
and silver tongues rehearse their lines
beneath their banners of pure deceit.
A circus clown in tailored grace
ascends the stage with borrowed smiles,
then mortgages tomorrow in the dark
and waves from thrones of stolen praise,
while knives of greed divide the National cake.
They promise milk and honeyed years,
then give us potholes filled with roads,
each crater a monument to promises.
“Transparency”,their sacred word;
yet darkness like their tinted glass,
Is all the masses see.
Tomorrow knocks upon the door,
but finds the windows bolted shut.
It's children learn the dark by heart,
while those who speak of brighter days
keep striking matches far from home.
And when we cry, they dim the lamps,
then swear the darkness is our eyes.
They call our hunger patience,
call our silence peace,
and name the crumbs upon our plates
a feast.
“Freedom” tolls for those who own
the gilded seats, the private throne,
while masses whistle, thin and long,
grateful for bare minimum,
a bitter taste, they have been taught
to call enough.
“Justice” arrives in scripted speech,
her scales balanced somewhere out of reach; Unless of course the subject is rich.
The law wears robes, but money holds the ropes,
and truth learns how to kneel
before a heavier hand.
What bitter theatre this has become?
they build the stage,
we buy the tickets;
they write the script,
we learn our lines;
they raise the curtain,
and we applaud the smoke.
Perhaps the cruelest joke is this:
the cage has learned to call itself a home,
and we, its restless inhabitants,
have learned to decorate the bars.
So raise a glass to the grand charade,
to power drunk upon the fear it made,
to promises dressed in ceremonial gold,
to tomorrow sold before it could speak.
They call it democracy.
We dance.
We clap.
We bleed.
And beneath the laughter of the crowd,
while the stage lights flicker over broken dreams,
the old monster bows,
and we applaud its name:
DEMONCRAZY.
