Debted Grievances

By Preeti Arra

When a dead soul is forgotten

The universe owes a debt

The ghost of the dead will take what they deserve

Before they're put to bed

Now the ghost of a man who wasn't mourned

Hovers over me

I must grieve over nothing

Until he sets me free

This silence and emptiness

Is extremely stubborn

There's a light at the end of the tunnel

But it's blinding, I succumb

I rise but don't shine

Can't shake this feeling of dread

I didn't even notice

That part of me was dead

To the bane of my existence

Although you bring me to my knees

I shall grieve over you

Until you find peace.
