Trickling, trickling—

The lines of 1994 waver and meander

Into the lines of Home (is it my home?)

Affairs: Deaths,

births, and marriages

Trickling, trickling—

The blood of Sharpeville and Soweto dries

Up like a festering scab which

Has been picked and picked until

There is no more

Trickling, trickling—

The dying songs of Sophiatown cry

Out in anguish: “liphi ikhaya

Lami?” Strange, stranger,

And stranger

Reporting to the line of

Home, (can I call it my home?)

Affairs. Deaths,

births, and marriages—

Azania, Mzansi, South Africa—

“Where is my home?”
