Death Of A Wetland
By Fayaz Ahmed Wani
It takes much time to choke a wetland,
By non-civic habits of a common-man
As thousands of species suffer for homeland.
Our breed with growing greed,
consuming earth, destroying mainland, choking wetlands.
People in mainland treat marshland like cash in hand.
A marathon for destruction is where we like to be,
A race for turning wetlands into garbage pits and wastelands.
Bottomlands with no bottom, wetlands no more wet.
Woodlands without wood, Heartlands with no food.
Concrete, concrete everywhere, wetlands without quicksands.
Sand mafia and land mafia in marathon, for habitat destruction.
Hokersar and Shallabugh no more in position.
To host flocks from beyond the Himalayas.
Dal and Manasbal and lakes in glacial all in anguish,
Our Do’s will leave us to perish.
Fools gold makes us to cherish.
Queensland, Rhineland mafi’s oil-gland.
Oiling the lands that need to be oil free,
Cheetah free India is a consequence,
Namibia to our rescue, hopes India to cherish again.
Let’s pledge, No more wetland deaths.
Save and cherish, Destroy and perish.
