Death

By Vivaan Khedkar

My loved ones stood around me in a circle, but the only one I could see was him

His face was thin

His smile, so wide

His power could stop time and tide.

He challenged me to a game of dice

But would my skills suffice?

His body covered in a golden light

For some reason, I did not want to fight

If anything I wanted to embrace it

And when I looked at it my heart lit

It lit with fire

It lit with ice

The situation was dire

Should I roll the dice?

My face was wrinkled like a prune

My skin, as pale as the moon

I had nothing to lose

I had no reason to refuse

Sweat trickled down my face

As the dice were the only thing in between me and my fate

Soon the dice were rolled, and it was too late

So I took his hand, it was the end of the wait

In that moment I felt calm

In that moment I felt satisfied

In that moment my life felt like it was in my palm

In that moment I felt like I had a guide

This certainly was a wild ride

But every head must bow

When it is time to go...to the other side
