Dear Unknown

When we pause life's satire,

and look away from its strife--

then to our beds-- retire.

The Sky comes to life.

Like a kid born in the mines of coal,

who knows not one of the Sun's rays,

it hammers at the dark, fills its goal,

and lays the diamonds for us to praise.

It bears the rough- white disc that-

does reflect Sun's light to me.

Yet like a cowboy's beloved straw-hat,

it veils the fire I long to see...

Its whisper is my lullaby,

its darkness my home--

my sympathy:

my dear, treasured Unknown.

The breeze is its beating heart,

that sings me to sleep to-night.

But slips away- as subtle as its start,

the only Dear stolen away by light.

Then my eyes fly open, to only see,

my dear Unknown, stolen from me.

And flutter shut, to a close,

to abandon the day that had arose.
