Dear Insomnia

This world was always cruel and harsh

You have been my one true friend

Never once did you abandon me

You were right there until the end

You helped me fight off sleep

And the unforgiving nightmares that followed

Insomnia, my dear friend

With your help, the pain never showed

What gives the world the right?

To treat me in a manner so despicable

Am I not a human being?

So what if I’m mentally unstable?

You help me forget that terrible man

Because if I sleep he follows me there

Insomnia, you blur away his misdeeds

You bury things that were neither just nor fair

He called himself my father

I rename him a monster

The abuse I endured from him

Should remain unspoken for the better

So tell me, my dear friend

Was it so bad that I wanted a fresh start?

The knife was just lying there

So I stabbed him in the heart
