Dear Aphrodite,

Original Submission by tanvi manojna

Dear Aphrodite,

Dear Aphrodite,

O' goddess of love and divine femininity,

what does it take to look like you?

to look effortlessly gorgeous, to not have any flaws?

Dear Aphrodite,

I look at myself in the mirror everyday,

point out everything that looks remotely wrong.

ribcage too wide, thighs too thick,

skin ruined by scars,

A constellation i never chose to wear.

Dear Aphrodite,

They say you made everyone beautiful,

perfect in their own ways,

But why does it feel like you forgot about me?

As if i was left behind,

another unfinished prayer

drifting out to sea.

Dear Aphrodite,

will someone ever love me?

like how Hades adores Persephone?

Because every man you have let enter my life,

has either cursed me or hung me out to dry.

Dear Aphrodite,

I have prayed to you every night,

hoping that at least this time you would answer.

but every morning i wake up,

feeling lesser like myself,

as if my body wasnt my body,

and my face wasnt my face.

How long do I have to pray for you to notice me?

How many songs am i supposed to sing?

how many oceans am i supposed search?

How many mirrors must I survive before I recognize myself?

So tell me, my lady, When will i finally be enough?
