Darling

By Marisol Aguilar

Not a day goes by where their smile flashes in my mind.

Just like any sentimental moment, that rich rain poured. Adding to their addicting beauty. And like those who'd given up on hope.

 I became a monster…one my darling hated.

This cursed world, the one who took them, a world they loved stabs them in the back with a gleaming smile.

One we share now.

What's this? A tiny sun trying to walk through this dark abyss, what a fool…only one could have helped but they're gone.

No.

Don't try to heal what is not. Nothing waits for me. No one needs me.

Just be a hero,

that hero who slays the wicked, evil villain.

A heartless beast.

Look in these dead eyes, compare them to yours.

Bright, loving, hopeful eyes.

Ones I used to have. Ones I miss.

But

I want nothing fake, nothing used..something that's not mine.

Like my darling,

I'll use this illusion to eclipse.

Remembering the nights alone, consuming the madness of their departure.

Waiting like a widow,

 for the hand of death.

I lay on my web,

Frightening by subtle moments,

I freeze,

My last winds,

I accept my fate,

To the eyes I adore,

Melting away the pain, this coldness I created, the utter sadness, my broken pieces of hope to nothing but dust.

This monster, now nothing but a forgotten memory.

Like my darling.

A reminder of fear, the heroes forgot to silence.

Laughing at the proud faces, stunned by a ghost hero's thought was no more.

Shaking by the words

“Miss me?”
