Darkness

As the sun prepares to rest

My heartbeats surge in zest,

Welcoming the blissful darkness,

that hides my scarred starkness.

It soothed my festering, fiery heart

when the cruel world once tore it apart,

Embalming those red, oozing wound

when pain was to which I was attuned.

It hid my flaws, it hid my tears,

helping often to suppress my fears

The only companion who’s never me ditched

Even after my lacerations were stitched.
