Dark Necessities

They creep in all so often

Tiptoe into the unsuspecting mind

Instinct sees a dark halo

A caution to pay heed

Its nature is but so wild

Perspicacity would not stop its course

Slow and steady they march into the conscious

A tsunami in that ever changing sea

A dance with the waves, a tango to the tune

Clouded and wrapped, wrapped and clouded

A mesmerizing trance has befallen

Foibles run deep, as cast a long shadow

Wisdom dims and flickers as a blown candle

The imagination is disconcerted, mindful not any more

Decoys strewn across, parodying shiny objects of covet

Lodged in the soul, imbibed into the cognizance

Sapience in a spiral, a haze over the insight

Sagacity leaves the thoughts, actions call for prudence

An undoing of the intellect, tossed in scant judgement

No longer self aware, a darkness lurks

Outstretched and bare, the soul is spent

Attempts at evasion, brimming with right earnest

Are solemn and intense, but soon run aground

The darkness shines so bright, glimmers and lures

Dark necessities are my yearning

Dark necessities are my desire
