Cry

I cry tears for Nepal

While you worship a God,

elusive as your empathy

you coo, I fly free

Another shooting another rapist another glacier

Melting melting melting into gold

My wings broken, yours a neat fold

I mistrust your intentions

they coil and slither

shedding skin

avaricious scales

and all the while you tell tales

of the good old days

of the gods you praise

my soul decays

I cry tears for Afghan women

While you joke about my driving

You dream of flying, me of dying

And I sob rivers of rubble and blood

My rancour fuelling forest fires

Yet you spit and hiss of desires

To be loved?

The hand of a child

pricked by sewing needles

Her blood fused with my clothes

I slither and shake and it shows

Every day I cry

As I eat dead animals

Just one more plastic bag to buy

Caught, in this hellish lie

This is no place for love,

I’m a crow, you’re a dove.
