Crime Of War
By Vani Nagar
if I seem like a different man my love,
let me tell you a story,
I was a beautiful genial boy,
and I too wrote romance and poetry,
I too waited for spring like the bluebells,
I too believed in fantasies and myths,
stories of Santa, heaven and hell,
And I believed I was one of a kind,
That I had what others didn’t,
That I just had a prolific mind,
but to your surprise, this story is a mystery,
The beautiful boy's cheeks are still red, but so are the hands now,
He has changed, and mystery of this story is,
why, when and how?
Now as I walk through the village,
suddenly I am unknown,
to the people, who don’t remember,
That I am the same kid who played with the children of their own
’Cause I don’t smile like my old friends anymore,
My face is passionless and almost dead,
And I am and will never be like I was before,
Perhaps what do I have to smile for,
Neither do I have a you, and myself nor,
I too want everything to go back to the way it was,
But it’s too late, love I just committed the crime of war.
