Creatures
By Subhagata Chowdhury
The vine inches down – like a snake hanging it seems,
Five inches away from me the dew touched the grass
Over the pale visage of the pond, the bright moonlight gleams
The night finally hunts me down at last.
We were lovers from the forgotten age and time of man,
Scurrying down the mountains we finally met our fate
The depraved cave and in front the demons stand
While fiery tongues leap out of the dreadful hellish gate.
We are lost in the ever widening blackout of space
Where atoms don’t fuse, neglecting the quantum pattern
We won’t be mourned or enthroned by our race
But I know in my heart, I know, it doesn’t matter.
After all this turmoil, you are still the regret I love
The passion that had tamed this ancient carnal beast
But now with arms unfurled I let you go up, up above
To that sacred place on earth where I will never be.
I finally kiss the earth goodbye- set out for an eternal stroll
The cold steel is now plunged deep in the heart of things
The head voice drowns me down as it tears apart my soul
I am severed from these creatures called human beings…
