Anotida Darlene Makore graces the stage of the Global Poetry and Creative Writing Competition 2026 with her evocative poem, "Crack in my Armour." As a participant in the poetry category, Anotida's work delves deeply into themes of vulnerability and the human desire for connection. Her poem, written under the pseudonym Miss Clouds, captures the fragility of human emotions and the longing for understanding and acceptance. It is a profound contemplation that resonates with anyone who has ever felt the weight of their own insecurities.

About the Work

"Crack in my Armour" is a poignant exploration of the emotional defenses we build and how they can be both a refuge and a prison. Anotida's writing style is candid and raw, effectively conveying a sense of yearning and solitude. The poem's imagery of being bottled up and the metaphor of armour highlight the tension between external strength and internal fragility. Anotida's words invite readers to reflect on their own emotional landscapes and the universal need for empathy and connection.

Crack in my armour – Miss Clouds

Known to be sensitive.

Well at least I think so

Insecure about everything I have in life.

Nope to be more specific I’m insecure about the people l have in my life.

It feels as though that slight warmness can be taken away in an instant.

Shown a lot of love but once it’s gone, I return to my shell.

Always constrained by something.

Are there people in my life actually there or just passing by to see this broken art piece

Flawed and broken

I'm not strong enough, the slightest scratch is the deepest of wounds

I need someone to listen to me

I need someone to be there for me.

l can’t control how much I feel

l can’t fight it, so I turn to my pen and paper where I feel most heard

No one gets me, my weakness is a crime in their eyes.

Can someone help me, can someone hear me.

l'm Screaming from inside.

I Feel like a loner

I Feel like I don’t belong.

I’m crying out

Still I remain bottled up like a map inside a bottle thrown into the sea and awaiting the day someone will find me.
