Contradictions And Controversies

By Durga Karthik

Who are we?

Unresolved, open, unsettled.

Still preaching, still searching

Still in pursuit.

Are we lovers, despised by society,

or are we the society shunning love away?

We are poets and dreamers,

trapped in a realist's skin.

We are grounded individuals

filled with pretentious emptiness.

We are the judge and the judged.

For and the against.

We are censorious and scathing

of skimpy clothes and skin.

We are the lascivious kind,

baring under closed roofs.

We are the chefs of rumours

and the vessel in world's play.

We are the starers in transports,

the silent victim of the eyes.

We are kind and selfish.

Sophisticated and crude.

We are open and closed.

Distant yet near.

We are the writers and the written,

the heroes and the fallen.

An army of sloths.

An erst of snakes.

A herd of crows.

We are the past and the future,

the struggle of the present.

We are we.

We are you.
