Contempt of Contentment
By Anindita Das
The longingness to be content is a difficult feeling to shed
Be at work or personal life, there is a bit extra that we need
All that we accomplish, all that we achieved, never seemed enough
At the end of the day, there is always one more desire to feed
Being in constant comparison with another person to be fulfilled,
To feel satiated in life, is something we all go through
We may deny doing so, laugh at the prospect of indulging in it,
But deep down we know what is a fallacy and what is true
Feeling inferior at times, inadequate to reach the goal that we set,
Either trying too hard or giving up in frustration
Citing reasons of incompetence or blaming the fate that we carry
Is all that we deem right, to pacify the inner commotion
Trying to mask the insecurities by donning a fake persona
Seeming unaffected and unmoved by the turmoil that raves within
Losing the connect with oneself, the identity as a whole
In order to feel adequate, in pursuit of a probable win
The contentment is never achieved, never are we truly satisfied
No matter how much we try, to whichever extent we go to
In this race to always give our best, to keep drilling ourselves,
Lost is our inner peace, unaware of how the time rapidly flew
As we grow older and wiser, we realise how naïve we were
To waste our life in pursuit of what was unimportant
The thirst of accomplishment could never be quenched
All we did was fret and regret, which all this time stayed dormant
