Constant Change

“Change is the only constant”

It is an oft-heard phrase

As profound as it may sound

Often leaves you in a daze


Some changes are good

The mind tells you so

Yet this stubborn heart

Refuses to go with the flow





This battle is that constant

Between spontaneous and cerebral

Between what you know is right for you

And that which leaves you gullible


These patterns deeply ingrained

Into the subconscious mind

Though painfully familiar

Irresistible to press rewind


And so you fall, and you stumble

Along the oft-beaten path

No tunnel here, no light at the end

You already know the aftermath
